Painting in process

Here are images of my painting, "Spring from the Earth" from start to finish:

here is the prepared canvas with some paper and fabric glued on then
a variety of colors added.

Here I have roughed in a design with chalk.

I've started defining the shapes by painting in the negative space and adding a little color (like the green leaves of the tulips).

I've added more color to the sky and defined the shapes a bit more.

I changed the shape of the daffodil by painting violet over part of it.

I brought in some pattern by stamping a darker yellow into the sky.

This is the finished painting. I got rid of the daffodil, did some more stamping into the flowers and cat, and integrated the stamping by painting into it with the colors around the stamping.

Figuring it out

I am in the process of figuring out how to create this blog. I know so many people who seem to do this effortlessly. First I couldn't get any pictures to show up. I think I have that fixed. Then I couldn't get any words to show up. Hopefully that is now fixed. We'll see.

Here is a photo of a recent painting (12"x12"). The title is "Unrestrained." It is one of the paintings that is in the DIRT exhibit at Columbia City Gallery. It is painted on a layer of garden dirt mixed with acrylic medium.
